case study and body of work
Use Brett Whiteley as a focus for a case study discussion. Explore his body of work, art-making practice and the artist's relationship to his subject, his audience and the outside world.
framing works
Analyse works using the syllabus frames: structural, cultural, subjective and postmodern.

Students study Whiteley's art-making techniques, explore his creative processes and make art themselves (teachers too!), surrounded by the inspiration of the studio space. Select a topic from the following list or discuss the possibility of a theme relating directly to your students' school topics with education staff at the studio.

Take a line for a walk through the Studio and engage with Whiteley's love of the curve. Experiment with materials and techniques that Whiteley explored. Observation skills and drawing techniques will be developed through looking at Whiteley's artworks and his unique approach to drawing.

A visual arts workshop bringing the curriculum alive with visits from Taronga Zoo residents. In this 2 hour workshop, students look at issues of representation and self-expression by engaging with original artworks and live animals through observation and discussion. This experience provides the opportunity to experiment with different media and approaches to drawing.
